Plymouth Sailing clubs are listed in our directory, offering all forms of sailing from gentle cruising to ocean racing. Some of the sailing clubs have a tremendous history, and two of them are designated as Royal Clubs. Plymouth sailors are extremely fortunate in having such splendid waters in which to sail, whether it is the calmer water inside the breakwater, or out at sea for the more challenging ocean sailing.

The views from the higher ground on The Hoe are incredible and provide a natural grandstand for watching sailboat racing. The most obvious thing that one can see is Drake's Island, named after Sir Francis Drake, who was playing bowls on Plymouth Hoe when the call came to have a set to with the opposing Armada.

The PYSC is a young persons watersports club, providing development opportunities in watersports in a safe environment.

Port Of Plymouth Sailing Association
The PPSA provides a forum for the discussion and resolution of all matters of common interest to its affiliated clubs and associations. It coordinates championships and clubs’ own racing programmes in the Dockyard Port so that they are accommodated without undue interference with one another and to the requirements of the Naval and civil harbour authorities.

Royal Plymouth Corinthian Yacht Club on the Hoe in Plymouth
The Royal Plymouth Corinthian Yacht Club was founded in1877 in premises in the City. It was formed to promote local sailing and rooms were rented at West Hoe and on Plymouth Pier to conduct the Club's sailing events. The Club was so successful that in 1886 it was granted the status of a Royal Yacht Club, followed by permission in 1893 to fly the Blue Ensign.
